Driven to be the best

Eric and Tyler have both played hockey on a professional level (Okay maybe just Eric), but they both understand the importance of proper skate sharpening and the direct connection it has with skill development. In a nutshell, they care more about you and your growth as a skater than "The Other Guys". Why? Because they've staked their reputation entirely on your satisfaction!

You can trust that every time you visit our shop, we'll treat your wheels like our own. Consistently providing you with with a level edge that's tailored to your specs, we believe once you try us out and feel the Maximum Edge difference, you're gonna be hooked!

Eric Neilson

Growing up in Fredericton and moving through their minor hockey system eventually led Eric to Rimouski of the QMJHL. After a successful four years with the Oceanic, Eric was drafted in the 5th round by the Los Angeles Kings. Eric played three years in the ECHL before becoming a beloved mainstay in the AHL for eight years, where he won the Calder Cup in 2011-12. Eric finished off his career in the EIHL with the Manchester Storm.

After retirement, but wanting to remain involved with the game, Eric served as an Assistant Coach with the Acadie-Bathurst Titan of the QMJHL, the St. Stephen Aces of the MHL and the NB U16 Selects team that attended the QMJHL Gatorade Challenge.

In addition to his collection of league trophies, Eric was nominated in six consecutive years for the Yanick Dupre Memorial Award, presented by the President of the AHL to the player who is committed to service to their local community,  winning the prestigious trophy while he was a member of the Syracuse Crunch in 2014.

Tyler Hooper

Hoop, as he is known, grew up in Durham Bridge “before the new highway, so I had to talk to school in knee-high snow every day”. Playing in FYHA throughout his childhood, Hoop ignored his Dad’s advice and decided to also become a goalie in Grade 5, his favourite player being Patrick Roy.

Playing for Leo Hayes hockey and football teams during their first two seasons before graduating, Hoop went on to Compu College and earned a personal training certification. In 2011, his fate quickly turned toward skate sharpening one night at Sweet Waters when Hoop ran into his old pal from elementary school – Eric Neilson. Eric had recently bought his business and was looking for someone to manage it while he was still playing pro, and after a few vodka sodas, Eric Neilson’s Skate Tech had its man.

Outside of giving the folks of Fredericton their edge, Hoop enjoys hockey, football and golf.

If Hoop could offer some wisdom of his profession, it would be that not all sharpening is created equal. Every skate is different, and we cater to their individual style and preference. We care more about your edges than the other guys because we know having a proper edge is imperative to having a positive experience out on the ice.

Brady

A resident of Keswick Ridge, Brady is a graduate of LHHS, where he played center for their hockey team and defence for the lacrosse team. Graduating in 2019, Brady started at Skate Tech shortly thereafter and has been part of the team for the last five years. Outside of work, Brady's hobbies include hockey, golf and traveling.

Something Brady wishes people knew about taking care of their skates is to store them somewhere dry so they don't rust.
